STOCK MARKET / European markets decline in late march session: FTSE MIB drops 1.77%
European stock markets closed negatively in the last session of March, with indices posting significant losses due to macroeconomic uncertainties and global market volatility. Milan’s FTSE MIB ended the session down 1.77% at 38,051.99 points, after reaching a high of 38,440.85 and a low of 37,874.46. Similarly, the FTSE Italia All Share dropped 1.76%, closing at 40,267.08 points. Across Europe, the Euro Stoxx 50 closed at 5,254.55 points, down 1.44%, while Frankfurt’s DAX fell 1.33% to 22,163.49 points. The CAC 40 in Paris declined 1.58%, closing at 7,790.71 points, while London’s FTSE 100 limited losses to -0.88%, ending at 8,582.81 points. Other European markets also saw declines, with Brussels’ BEL 20 down 1.62%, Madrid’s IBEX 35 losing 1.31%, and Amsterdam’s AEX falling 0.95%. The worst-performing European market was Vienna’s ATX, which dropped 2.38%, closing at 4,076.36 points. Unlike Europe, Wall Street ended the day with mixed results. The Dow Jones gained 1.00%, closing at 42,001.76 points, while the S&P 500 rose 0.55% to 5,611.85 points. The Nasdaq, however, closed slightly lower (-0.14%) at 17,299.29 points. Investor sentiment remains affected by uncertainty surrounding global economic outlooks, with a focus on inflation data and central bank decisions. Market volatility was also reflected in the rise of the VIX index, which gained 2.91% to reach 22.28 points.
